Heatwave-like condition returns to Odisha

After drop in mercury for nearly ten days, heatwave-like conditions have returned to make life difficult for people as temperature at five places in Odisha breached 40° C mark.

While western Odisha’ Bolangir remained the hottest town today at 41.5° C followed by Bhawanipatna at40.5° C, Malkangiri at 40.2 ° C, Jharsuguda and Hirakud recorded 40.1° C.

The state capital, which was topping the mercury chart about ten days ago, recorded 39.8° C today. On the other hand, Cuttack recorded 38.2° C.

Residents in the Twin Cities remained indoors and the roads wore a deserted look due to the heatwave like condition. Though the traffic was thin, some people were seen moving with clothes wrapped around their faces to get some respite from the heat.

It may be recalled that the state government had directed the schools on March 22 to conduct morning classes from April 2.

As per the directive, the classes will be conducted from 6.30 am to 10.30 am. Besides, the schools have been asked to conclude the examination process by April end.

The other hottest cities where temperature hovered around 40.0° C are: Sambalpur (39.1° C), Talcher (39.0° C), Sonepur (38.9° C), Angul (38.7° C), Chandbali (38.7° C), Dhenkanal (38.4° C) and Sundargarh (38.0° C).
