Heatwave singes Odisha as mercury crosses 40 degree C at 22 places

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions prevailed across Odisha as 22 places in the state recorded the maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or above today, said the IMD regional centre here.

Two places –Sonepur and Angul–recorded the day’s highest maximum temperature of 44.1 degree C, added the weatherman. Boudh was the second hottest place in Odisha with 44.0 degree C.

Four places in the state—Titlagarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Bhawanipatna—recorded maximum temperature in between 43 and 44 degree C.

The mercury hovered around 42 degree C at eight places—Hirakud, Malkangiri, Bolangir, Talcher, Rourkela, Nuapada, Sundargarh and Bargarh—as per the evening bulletin issued by the IMD.

Baripada recorded the maximum temperature of 41.2 while two places—Bhadrak and Phulbani—recorded 41.0. The maximum temperature was 40.5 at Deogarh and 40.4 at Keonjhar, said the MeT department.

Kendrapara and Chandbali recorded the maximum temperature of 40 degree C each. The maximum temperature was 38.2 in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, said the IMD.

“There will not be any large change in maximum temperature at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next five days,” added the IMD.
