Heavy rain across Odisha on cards, ‘Red Warning’ issued for 7 dists

Bhubaneswar: The depression over Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger heavy rainfall across Odisha and the system is very likely to concentrate into a Deep Depression which would cause more downpour.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued ‘Red Warning’ for Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayaga, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Koraput districts with prediction of extreme heavy rainfall in these places.

This apart, orange warning has been issued for 14 districts– Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur.

After the system turns into a deep depression, it would cross Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts between Kalingapatnam & Paradip close to Puri during late night of 20th & early morning of 21st September. Cautionary signal no-3 has been hoisted at all the ports of the state.

Squally wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph is very likely along and off West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh Coasts during next 12 hours. It will gradually increase becoming 55-65 kmph gusting 75 kmph from 20th September afternoon for subsequent 12 hours.

State of sea will be rough to very rough over North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh Coasts during next 36 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture into northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh Coasts during next 36 hours.

Rainfall across the state is likely to continue till September 22.
