Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today reviewed the heavy rainfall situation in various districts of Odisha.

During the meeting, the official directed the concerned Collectors to provide required support to the affected people.

The Special Relief Commissioner reviewed the situation with the Collectors of Angul, Balasore, Bargarh, Boudh, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Subarnapur and Sambalpur.

He has directed the Collectors to take adequate precautionary measures and keep all field-level functionaries at strategic locations to meet any eventuality.

It was decided at the meeting that people from waterlogged areas will be evacuated, if required, and sheltered in safe places. They shall be provided with food and drinking water.

The local Fire Service teams and ULB authorities shall take steps towards de-watering and clearance of uprooted trees, if such situations arise.

DG, Fire & Emergency Services has been requested to deploy teams in the districts of Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Angul, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Jajpur and Bhadrak in search and rescue operations.

ODRAF teams were being sent to Keonjhar and Sambalpur for rescue and search-related duties. NDRF teams were being deployed in Bhadrak and Jajpur.

The Special Relief Commissioner also reviewed the present position of river systems and reservoirs. He asked the concerned officials to stay alert.

The state received an average rainfall of 83.8 mm during the last 24 hours. Highest rainfall of 390.6 mm was recorded in Boudh block, official sources said.
