Heavy rainfall to lash these Odisha districts in next 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha in north region may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours under influence of cyclonic circulation formed over West Bengal and neighbourhood.

“The cyclonic circulation formed over coastal West Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over Jharkhand and neighbourhood and extends upto 2.1 km above mean sea level. Under influence of it and strong monsoon current, enhanced rainfall activity very likely to continue in some districts in north Odisha during next 24 hours,” said Bhubaneswar MeT in a bulletin today.

The regional meteorological centre issued orange warning for several districts till tomorrow morning.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Angul between today and Sept 13 morning,” the release stated.

Moreover, in view of the cyclonic circulation, the yellow warning has been issued for districts included Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Koraput, Bargarh, Balangir and Sonepur where heavy rainfall likely to occur today. Such weather condition may continue till tomorrow morning.

The rain is also on the cards for the districts of Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundergarh between Sept 13 and 14.

However, no rain is in the forecast between Sept 14 and 17 for Odisha districts.

As the sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough due to strong monsoon current and high waves, the fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast during next 24 hours.
