Helmetless driving claims 2 lives in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Two persons died and another sustained critical injuries when a bike and a scooter collided head-on in Kendrapara district of Odisha today.

The deceased have been identified as Khageswar Nayak (58) and Ramesh Nayak (58) of Kaithapala village in Kendrapara.

The incident took place while Khageswar and Ramesh were returning home from Sihopada on a bike (OR-02-AE-82580) in the afternoon. The duo was travelling on the bike without wearing helmets, locals said.

The duo’s bike collided with Sushant Bindhani’s scooter (OD-29K-6040) coming from the opposite direction at a turning on Sihopada-Baripada road, they added.

Both Khageswar and Ramesh sustained grievous injuries on their heads and were rushed to a Community Health Centre (CHC) at Rajkanika in a critical condition. However, they were declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

On the other hand, Sushant has been hospitalised with a fractured leg and other injuries on his body.

On being informed, Rajkanika police reached the hospital and sent the bodies for postmortem. They have also seized the two vehicles and launched a probe into the incident.
