Here’re details of 51 new COVID cases in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 51 new positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) today taking the total count to 1103 so far.

Among 51 fresh cases, 11 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kalahandi district, 1 case was reported from Puri, 3 from Mayurbhanj district, 4 in Ganjam district, 5 in Jajpur district, 2 in Angul district and 2 in Jagatsinghpur district, informed Odisha Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department today.

Of 11 new cases in Kalahandi, 10 are from quarantine centres and one is a local case. The Department is yet to share details of the local infected with the virus. The persons found positive for COVID-19 in quarantine centres in the districts are Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat returnees. While 8 infected persons have returned from Maharashtra, the worst-hit coronavirus state, one has a travel history to Chhattisgarh and one has returned from Gujarat, where over 12,000 positive cases have been reported so far and 9 districts fall under red zone category.

Earlier, the western Odisha district had reported two cases and the patients had recovered from the disease recently. With the fresh cases, total number of positive cases in the district rose to 13 of which 11 are active cases.

In Puri district, one case has been reported today from a quarantine centre. According to I&PR Department, the person is a West Bengal returnee. With this, the total cases rose to 45 with 42 active cases as on May 21.

Of 51 new cases today, three positive cases are from Mayurbhanj district, which has now total 14 cases, out of which 7 are active and 7 have recovered. The fresh cases came from quarantine centres and all are Andhra Pradesh returnees.

In red zone Ganjam, four cases were reported today, of which three came from quarantine centres with travel history to Surat. A local in the district has been infected with the deadly virus. The details of his travel history or contact tracing are yet to be disclosed by the I&PR Department. With this, the total number of COVID cases in the district surged to 317 with 182 active cases. A total number of 132 patients infected with coronavirus have recovered and three patients have died of the disease in the south coastal district so far.

Similarly, the State reported five COVID cases from Jajpur, the second worst-hit corona district. Of five cases, all are from quarantine centres and they are Tamil Nadu returnees. With the fresh five cases, the number increased to 179 with 119 active cases and 60 recovered cases so far.

In Angul, two persons have been found positive for COVID-19 today. The two were in quarantine centres after they returned from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh respectively. Following fresh cases in Angul, total number rose to 19 with all active cases.

Jagatsinghpur, which was declared a COVID-free district earlier with zero active cases, again reported two cases today. The persons were in quarantine centres with travel history to COVID-hit state Maharashtra. With this, the total tally reached 30, of which 25 are active now.
