Here’s how Odisha govt is gearing up to tackle heat wave conditions

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to take certain steps to manage heat wave during the summer season that commences in March and stretches up to mid-June, official sources said.

The state government has decided to assess magnitude of heat wave related morbidity and mortality where the administrative officers have been asked to determine threshold values (thermo-hygrometric index) which cause heat wave related adverse health outcomes.

The administrators have been directed to conduct community vulnerability assessment to identify the section which is most vulnerable to heat wave.

The government has instructed mapping and documentation of current initiatives and activities against heat wave. Administrative officers have been asked to use Mass Messaging System to disseminate heat wave warning.

The government has called for strengthening heat wave action plan incorporating alternative livelihood strategies for vulnerable population and involving more stakeholders.
