Here’s what Odisha tele actor Nikita’s sister-in-law says about death

Cuttack: In a twist to the mysterious death of Odia tele actor Nikita, the deceased’s sister-in-law said that apart from her brother Lipan, the former’s father and brother were present during the incident.

Nikita jumped off roof out of anger. But, the couple was not present on the roof during fall out between the two on a fateful night, Nikita’s sister-in-law Sonam told reporters here today.

“We received a phone call between 11.00-11.30 pm that Nikita has jumped off the roof. After hearing it, my father rushed to the hospital. The next morning my brother Lipan said that they had an argument at home and they had not gone to the roof,” she said.

She said that her brother Lipan, Nikita’s father and brother had held her for seven minutes while she was running to the roof out of anger following squabble.

“However, they can’t hold her anymore and she escaped. After she fell off the roof, she was rushed to the hospital,” Lipan’s sister Sonam said.

She refuted the allegation against her brother Lipan, rather raised doubt on Nikita’s family for a delay in filing the complaint against him.

“If Nikita’s husband pushed her from the roof, why an FIR was not lodged immediately? My brother was in the hospital throughout night and day. Why Nikita’s family was behaving with him so nicely? I just hope the truth becomes victorious,” she told media.

Her statement came a day after the Chauliaganj police put up a latka (notice) at Nikita’s in-laws’ house on Saturday.

The latka was issued against Nikita’s in-laws asking them for appearance before the police as the duo is absconding since the incident.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem report revealed that Nikita had died after falling from a height.

Nikita’s husband Lipan has been sent to the Choudwar Central jail after the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court in Cuttack rejected his bail application on Tuesday.

The Chauliaganj police had arrested him on Monday night on charges of attacking and pushing her wife Nikita to death on Jan 4 evening.

Following the complaint lodged by Nikita’s father Sanatan Behera, a case was registered under Section 302, 498 (A), 306 and 34 of IPC.

Notably, Odia TV and film actress Lakshmipriya Behera alias Nikita died at a private hospital on Jan 5 while undergoing treatment for head injury.

According to reports, she had been staying at her father’s house following some disturbance with her husband Lipan and in-laws. The couple has a four-month-old son.

On a fateful night on Jan 4, Nikita reportedly fell off the roof and sustained a serious head injury. She was admitted to the Aswini Hospital where she succumbed.

Her father alleged that Lipan pushed her from the roof following a heated argument between them.
