High alert in 3 Odisha districts after blast in Chhattisgarh by Maoists

Bhubaneswar: High alert has been sounded in three districts of Odisha after 10 security personnel and a driver were killed in an IED blast by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada, today.

Chhattisgarh-bordering districts Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur have been put on high alert after the incident, informed Sanjeeb Panda, Intelligence Director.

Combing operation, checking and frisking of vehicles have been intensified in the districts, the police official added.

As many as ten personnel of Chhattisgarh’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the driver of the vehicle in which they were travelling died in the explosion.

The security personnel had gone to Dantewada’s Aranpur area for carrying out anti-Maoist operation after getting intelligence inputs regarding presence of the extremists. The tragic incident took place when the jawans were returning.

The explosives were planted by the Maoists on the road.
