Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena said Odisha will witness a high flood in Subarnarekha system as Galudih barrage in Jharkhand released around 3.5 lakh cusecs of water through 14 gates at 8 pm today.
The state government has put the Collectors of Balasore and Mayurbhanj on high alert. Additional teams of NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Brigade have been sent to Balasore, Jena added.
Jena further revealed that the water level in Baitarani river is rising and it may cross the danger mark at Anandpur and Akhuapada.
“The Collectors of Jajpur, Bhadrak and Keonjhar have been asked to maintain high alert,” Jena said.
On the other hand, Water Resources department Engineer in Chief Bijay Mishra said there is an improvement in the flood situation in Mahanadi delta.
“Rainfall activities have subsided in the upper catchment area of Mahanadi in Chhattisgarh. There is a decrease in the water flow in the river. The flood situation is under control now. The situation will improve further in the next couple of days,” Mishra said.
