High flood maroons villages, disrupts road communication in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 6:

Hundreds of villages in Odisha have been marooned due to flooding rivers and heavy rains.

Reports from Nayagarh said that  74 villages of Gania and Bhapur blocks have been surrounded by the floodwater of Mahanadi.

In Kendrapara district, floodwater of Brahmani was flowing over the Cuttack-Chandabli road at Kasananta village under Pattamundai block.

At Jaleswar in Baleswar district, the floodwater of Subararekha was flowing over the danger level at Rajghat.

At Mahanga under the Salepur block in Cuttack district, the floodwater of Birupa was flowing over Krushnadaspur-Sipura road disrupting road connection to two panchayats.

Road communication between Narsinghpur and Nayagarh has been disrupted as the floodwater of Mahanadi was flowing at a height of 6 feet across the road at Jalakeli village in Narsinghpur block in Cuttack district.

Reports from Puri district said that two panchayats under Nimapara block have been surrounded by the floodwater of Dhanua river.

Similarly, 10 villages of Karamula panchayats of Gondia block in Dhenkanal district have been surrounded by the floodwater of Brahmani.

Two dead, 3 missing

An old man died after he was swept away by the floodwater of Godhi Nullah at Basudeipur village in Nayagarh district.

In another incident, a couple and their 4-year-old granddaughter went missing after they were swept away by the raging floodwater of Bhulki nullah at Bhulki village under Kisinda police station limits in Sambalpur district this morning.

A youth of Godhana village of Patakura block in Kendrapara district was swept away by the floodwater of Luna river this morning.
