Bhubaneswar: Campaigning for the first phase Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha came to an end today.
Four Lok Sabha constituencies—Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Koraput—and 28 Assembly segments under their jurisdictions will go for polls in the first phase in the state on May 13.
Altogether 62,87,222 voters including 30,97, 527 men and 31,89,060 women will exercise their franchise at 7,303 polling booths in the first phase polls in Odisha. Webcasting would be done in at least 60 per cent booths in the first phase polls, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Bihari Dhal today.
Among the four Lok Sabha constituencies, Kalahandi segment has the highest number of 17,00,780 voters while Koraput seat has the lowest number of 14,80,922 voters, added the CEO.
Among the 28 Assembly seats, Dharamgarh seat in Kalahandi district has the highest number of 2,61,709 voters and Laxmipur seat in Koraput district has the lowest number of 1,73,721 voters.
The voters will decide the fate of altogether 37 candidates for four Lok Sabha seats and 243 candidates for 28 Assembly seats in the first phase polls.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) data, 11 candidates each are contesting the polls from Koraput, Kalahandi and Berhampur Lok Sabha seats while only four candidates are in the fray for Nabarangpur seat.
The highest number of 17 candidates are trying their luck from Berhampur Assembly seat in Ganjam while three candidates each are in the fray for Jharigaon, Nabarangpur and Dabugaon seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deployed its top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to woo the voters in the first phase polls in Odisha.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his trusted aide VK Pandian campaigned for the ruling party.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi addressed a poll rally of the party through virtual mode.
