Higher Education Minister condoles death of BJB College girl student

Bhubaneswar: State Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari today condoled untimely death of the BJB College girl student Ruchika Mohanty, who reportedly died by suicide in college hostel yesterday.

Taking to microblogging site he expressed his grief over death of the college student.

“I am deeply saddened by untimely death of Ruchika Mohanty, a Plus III student of the BJB College, who was staying at Karubaki hostel. My condolences to the bereaved family. This is a sensitive issue. The Government will take appropriate action after receiving the police probe report,” Pujari wrote on his Twitter handle.

Ruchika Mohanty, a Plus III first year Arts student of the BJB Autonomous College with History Honours, was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside hostel room here yesterday.

A suicide note recovered from the spot revealed that the student was tortured by her three seniors for which she took extreme step to end her life.

Reacting to the incident, a team of members of Odisha unit of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) led by Syed Yashir Nawaz protested in front of the residence of Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari. The agitators of the Congress’ student wing hurled tomatoes at the residence demanding immediate arrest of persons accused in the incident. They also demanded Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia for kin of the deceased student and resignation of the minister over the issue.
