Hirakud dam closes all gates in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Hirakud dam authorities today closed all the gates to maintain water level at the reservoir in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.

Currently, the water level at the reservoir stands at 623 ft (rising) against total storage capacity of 630 ft by 3.00 pm on September 1.

While average water inflow of water into the dam was recorded 49,293 cusec, the average outflow is 21,667 cusec.

Earlier, the floodwater was being discharged from the Hirakud dam through two sluice gates till morning on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the water inflow at several points is falling except Belgaon (in Tel River) where 19,000 cusec water recorded today. While Patharla (Tel River) registered 46,963 cusec water (falling), the water inflow at Khairmal (in Mahanadi River) was 1,34,000 cusec (falling) and Barmul (Mahanadi) 1,46,250 cusec (falling). However, the water level remained steady with 1, 63,816 cusec at Mundali point today.
