Hirakud dam opens four more gates in Odisha

Sambalpur: In view of increasing inflow of water into Hirakud reservoir following incessant rain in the upper catchment areas of Mahanadi River, the dam authorities today opened four more gates to release the excess floodwater.

With opening of four sluice gates in the morning, the floodwater is being discharged through 6 gates.

Currently, the water level of hirakud dam stands at 625.93 ft against total storage capacity of 630 ft by 5 pm today. The average water inflow into the dam was recorded 1,21,502 cusec and outflow was  85,830 cusec at 3.00 pm today.

Meanwhile, the status of Rengali was steady with 122.45 metre against total full reservoir level of 123.50 metre.
