Hirakud dam to open 6 more gates today

Sambalpur: In view of increasing water inflow into Hirakud dam following incessant rain in upper catchment areas of Mahanadi River, authorities decided to open six more sluice gates of the reservoir to release excess floodwater today.

with opening of six more gates, the water will be discharged from the dam through 18 gates.

Currently, 12 gates of the dam are opened. The water level of Hirakud reservoir stands at 625.71 ft (rising) against total storage capacity of 630 ft.

Meanwhile, the water inflow at various points is rising except Patharla and Barmul barrages. While 62,800 cusec water is entering into Belgaon (rising) on Tel River, the water inflow was recorded 2,44,095 cusec (falling) at Patharla, 6,46,000 cusec at Khairmal (rising) and 5,72,000 cusec at Barmul (falling).

Similarly, the water level is rising at Mundali with 6,90,000 cusec of water inflow in the morning.
