Hockey world cup celebration: Cuttack civic body to expedite beautification work

Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) today convened a meeting to take stock of the ongoing beautification work in the Silver City here for the hockey world cup celebrations, scheduled to be held at Barabati Stadium on January 11, 2023.

CMC Commissioner Nikhil Pavan Kalyan and other senior officials of the civic body reviewed the beautification work, including the cleaning and painting of over bridges, bridges and Ring Road embankment walls in the city here.

The CMC Commissioner directed the official concerned to expedite the work and finish the beautification project well ahead of the January 11 event.

Notably, Sports and Youth Services department Commissioner-cum-Secretary R. Vineel Krishna had chaired a preparatory meeting for the mega event on December 10.

The Sports Secretary put emphasis on coordinated efforts by all departments concerned for successful organisation of the January 11 event.  He also asked the officials to work in close cooperation with the hockey federation for the celebration.

Odisha is scheduled to host the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup-2023 at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela from January 13 to 29 next year.

The state government in collaboration with the Hockey India will organise celebrations in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur for the hockey world cup.
