Home guard loses legs after being run over by train in Odisha

Balasore: In a tragic incident, a home guard, who was assigned the duty for CM’s programme in Balasore district, lost his two legs after being run over by a train at Nilgiri Road Railway Station today.

The victim was identified as Natabar Nayak, a resident of Tundapada village.

According to reports, Natabar, working under Soro police station, was traveling in a train from Soro to join duty for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s programme in Balasore district today. He alighted at Nilgiri Road Railway Station as the train delayed for departure. The incident took place when the speeding Duronto Express ran over him while he was crossing the railway track.

The home guard lost his two legs in the incident. The locals rescued him in critical condition and rushed him to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep concern over unfortunate rail accident and announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for the injured home guard. He also directed for free medical treatment for him.
