He confessed to his crime during interrogation, police sources said. "Yesterday, we got information about Tanla's presence in Badmal. A GRP team arrested him from near Badmal railway station," said Dilip Kumar Bag, Jharsuguda Circle DSRP, GRP.

On the other hand, Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought a reply from Balangir SP, district Collector and Municipal Executive Officer over the incident within two weeks.

Notably, Tanla, a resident of Samalai village under Patnagarh block, had killed his daughter on May 24 by smothering her neck for having love affair with the boy.

The deceased, a minor, had left the village with the boy three months ago. When the couple returned to the village, Tanla, in a fit of rage, killed his daughter by pressing her neck at Malgodampada near Bolangir railway station. Tanla fled the spot and went absconding soon after committing the crime. The girl was reportedly pregnant when she died.

A complaint regarding the incident was lodged by the grandmother of the deceased girl at the Railway police station.
