Sources said while Bikash Lenka, a resident of Rahama village was returning to his home late in the evening on Wednesday, Harihar Baral and his son Tapan Baral  of the same village attacked him.

Allegedly, the father-son duo after overpowering Bikash chopped off both his hands in the most barbaric manner using a garden hoe.

Bikash has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack in a critical condition. The victim’s paternal uncle Chandramani Lenka has lodged a written complaint in this regard at the Kuakhia police station.

“Hari Baral and his son Tapan Baral accosted him. While Tapan Baral held him, Hari hacked him with a garden hoe. They had previous enmity,” said Chandramani Lenka, victim’s paternal uncle.

Police are investigating the matter and has launched a manhunt to nab the culprits. Police suspect it to be the fallout of previous enmity.

“They are neighbours. Two of his neighbours have chopped off his two hands using a garden hoe. Currently, his condition is critical and he is undergoing treatment at the SCB. We have registered a case vide no. 215/2016 in Kuakhia police station. The investigation is on and we are trying to nab the culprits very soon,” informed Ashish Kumar Sahu, IIC Kuakhia.
