Unidentified assailants hacked to death an hotelier in Odisha’s pilgrim town Puri this evening.

According to reports, Chandan Behera, proprietor of Sai Kutir Lodge near Puri district court was hacked to death on the lawn of the lodge around 7.30 PM today by some by unknown attackers who were carrying swords.

The attackers hacked Behera to death while he was entering the lodge premises on a scooter along with a pillion rider.

Interestingly, Sea Beach police station is located hardly at a distance of 30m from the spot where the crime took place.

Behera’s pillion rider who has also sustained injuries is being interrogated by the police.

Police suspect old rivalry to be the cause behind the murder.

Sources said Behera, a practicing lawyer who hailed from Balasore was also into the hotel business and was operating hotels in Puri, Bhubaneswar, and Rourkela.
