Bargarh/Nuapada: A middle-aged man was killed by some unidentified miscreants last night at around 9.00 PM by slitting his throat with sharp weapons on Bhutamunda-Nuapada road beside a farmland near Mandosila village under Paikamal police limits in Bargarh district.

The deceased was identified as 37-year-old Pinku Kumar Sahu, who belonged to the village.

According to a source, Pinku had been running a hotel in front of the tehsil office in Nuapada town of this district. He used to travel to Nuapada every day for his business purposes. He had taken the hotel on lease from someone. He was attacked when he was returning from Nuapada district.

The miscreants threw Pinku’s body in the farmland and fled from the spot soon after committing the crime. Family of the victim reached the spot after being informed by some locals. They rescued him from a pool of blood and mud and rushed him to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in critical condition for treatment. However, doctors at the government-run health facility declared him ‘dead’.

Paikamal police were informed today morning and a probe team reached the hospital. Police seized the body and initiated a probe into the death, which is underway.

The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem is done.

“The murder appears to be a fallout of past enmity,” the deceased's family suspected.
