House owner dies after being pushed off roof in Odisha’s Puri; tenant detained

Puri: An owner of a house died after allegedly being pushed off roof at Pathuria Sahi under Town police limits in Puri district yesterday. Police detained a tenant of the house for interrogation in this case.

The deceased has been identified as Narenda Moharana (65).

The incident has created shockwave among residents at Pathuria area.

According to reports, Moharana had given his house on rent to a person identified as Benudhar Sahoo. But, he had been indulged in argument with the tenant many a time over rent payment.

Yesterday, the tenant allegedly pushed the house owner off roof after a heated argument following which Moharana fell down. The neighbours found him lying on the ground and they rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Tension erupted at the locality following the incident. The locals gheraoed the Town Police Station demanding immediate arrest of the tenant.

Based on written complaint lodged by the deceased person’s relative Ashok Mohapatra, the police detained Benudhar for interrogation.

According to neighbours, Benudhar along his wife had been staying at Moharana’s house since past three years. Both the house owner and tenant always had quarrel over irregular rent payment.

The neighbours alleged that Benudhar pushed the elderly person off the roof out of anger following which the latter died.
