Housing society threatens to ostracise three senior citizens in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Families of three senior citizens were allegedly threatened by a housing society to cut off water and electricity supplies without citing any reasons for the move.

The Cosmopolis Residents’ Welfare Association issued notices to Arun Mohanty, Ramahari Padhi and Siddharth Sahu on December 10 asking them to respond by December 20, failing which water and electricity supplies will be snapped to their houses.

The three senior citizens later moved the Bhubaneswar Civil Judge Court which put a stay on the order of the Cosmopolis Residents’ Welfare Association. The court also issued a show cause notice to the housing society.

As the threatening has been issued to deprive them of basic amenities, the three senior citizens lodged a complaint at the Khandagiri police station and filed a petition before the State Human Rights Commission.

Worth mentioning, Arun had alleged that an executive body member of the Cosmopolis Residents’ Welfare Association was involved in corruption. Later the housing society’s governing body held a meeting on December 8 and sought evidence from Arun, owner of the Flat number G-161.

Arun has been staying at the Cosmopolis Apartment complex since 2015. “Without discussing the issues, the housing society put up the notices at different blocks. I my wife and 89-year-old mother have been mentally tortured due to the notice,” said the senior citizen said.
