Huge spike in COVID-19 cases in Odisha; tally at 2104

Bhubaneswar: As many as 156 persons tested positive for deadly coronavirus in the last 24 hours, highest single-day spike so far, taking the total count in the state to 2104,  said the Government the today.

The fresh cases are from Ganjam (17),  Jajpur (11),  Khurdha (3), Kendrapada (50), Cuttack (20),  Bhadrak (7), Jagatsinghpur (14), Balangir (2), Nayagarh (3), Sundergarh (3), Boudh (1), Nuapada (3), Mayurbhanj (3), Keonjhar (1), Kandhamal (9), Malkangiri (1), Sambalpur (2), Baragarh (3) and Sonepur (3).

Total 3559 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.  Of the fresh cases, 153 have been reported from quarantine centres and remaining three are local contacts. Contact tracing and followup action is underway, said the Health and Family Welfare Department.

With the new cases, the total count of positive cases in the state crossed 2000-mark.  The number of active cases in the state stands at 969 while 1126 persons have recovered in the state. Seven persons have so far succumbed to the virus.
