Human skeletal remains found in Urmagarh waterfall in Odisha’s Kandhamal; probe on

Gochhapada: A human skeleton was found by a local villager in Urmagarh waterfall under Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district, today morning.

According to a police source, a local man had gone to the waterfall earlier in the day for fishing and spotted the human skeleton. Later, he informed about this to Gaon Sathi after returning to his village. In turn, Gochhapada police were contacted by the Gaon Sathi.

On being informed about this, a team of police reached the waterfall and recovered the mortal remains including the skull trapped between two rocks.

Meanwhile, it is the skeleton of a student who had earlier gone missing in the water body around two months ago, the deceased’s family suspected.

“The missing student was then identified as Rakhal Behera, the son of one Linga Behera from Nakadisaru village of Katringia panchayat in the district. Rakhl had gone to the waterfall along with some of his friends and went missing. The human skeleton found today is that of Rakhal,” the student’s relatives claimed.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the skeleton found today is that of the student or not.

Worth mentioning, a team of ODRAF and fire services personnel had launched a frantic search to trace the missing student but to no avail.
