Human trafficking: Odisha cops rescue 19 women from OSRTC bus

Jeypore: Borigumma police rescued 19 young women allegedly being trafficked to various locations from Odisha for slavery and sexual exploitation from a government bus here on Wednesday night.

A couple has been detained in connection with human trafficking for further interrogation.

According to reports, the women were allegedly being trafficked on Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus travelling from Umerkote to Visakhapatnam yesterday night.

Acting on basis of information from few bus passengers, Borigumma police raided the OSRTC bus and rescued 19 women including minor girls.

Reports said that the women were unaware of their destinations. During interrogation, they revealed that they were being taken by a couple on the bus.

Police detained one couple for interrogation in the alleged human trafficking case, informed Borigumma IIC Sagarika Nath.
