Humiliated by villagers, youth ends life in Odisha

Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a youth ended life after being humiliated by villagers for his alleged relationship with a minor girl in Odisha.

The incident was reported from Kumutighai village under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district.

The deceased was identified as Bisikeshan Pradhan alias Lucky (24), son of Bansidhar Pradhan of Kumanda village under Jagannath prasad Police Station in Ganjam.

He was found hanging after he was forced to marry the minor girl.

According to reports, Lucky had been running a mobile phone shop in Karachuli panchayat area in past 10 years. He was residing at his uncle Dhoba Nayak at Kumutighai village.

On November 9, he was beaten up by some youth inside his shop alleging him of having physical relationship with a minor girl of the village. Next day, the sarpanch along with some youth had dragged him from his uncle’s house and handed him to the police. He was detained at the police station. On November 11, the accused youth’s father and brother-in-law had visited the police station for settlement.

After a long wait, police allowed Lucky to walk free in the evening following discussion and an undertaking signed by him in presence of the sarpanch to marry the minor girl.

However, the accused was in mental trauma after returning from the police station, reports said.

Sources said that Lucky had been to his shop on Wednesday and returned to home in the evening. Even after furnishing an undertaking, the minor girl’s two relatives had visited Lucky last night and abused him. Following the incident, he remained missing from home. His family had searched him and finally found him hanging from a mango tree, located at around 100 metre away from the backward of the house, at around 3.00 am.

Buguda police recovered a suicide note from his pant blaming none for his death. However, he made it clear that he had been trapped in a false case.

Police initiated probe after registering an unnatural death case based on complaint by family.

Meanwhile, the family refuted allegation made against Lucky terming it as ‘baseless’.

They alleged that Lucky took extreme step under pressure after he was forced to marry the minor girl.
