ICDS Supervisor caught red-handed taking bribe of Rs 80,000 in Odisha

Nuapada: Odisha Vigilance today arrested a woman Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) official after she was caught red-handed while taking bribe of Rs 80,000 for an Anganwadi job here in the district.

Harshamani Dei, the Supervisor of ICDS, Chatiaguda Sector under Sinapali Block in Nuapada district, was apprehended while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from a complainant for appointment of his sister as Anganwadi Worker.

The accused had earlier demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant. Later, the amount was reduced to Rs 80,000 during negotiation between Dei and the complainant.

Vigilance source said that the complainant was asked to meet Dei at the Sinapali Bus Stand and hand over the bribe amount.

Acting on a complainant, Koraput Vigilance laid a trap and caught the corrupt ICDS Supervisor while receiving the bribe. The anti-corruption officials recovered bribe amount of Rs 80,000 from Dei.

A Vigilance case has been registered against the accused in this connection and investigation is in progress.

Following arrest, simultaneous searches have been launched at three places in Nuapada district to trace properties disproportionate to her known source of income.
