IDCO to set up 23 industrial parks in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The state government has asked the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) to set up 23 industrial parks in different regions.

This was revealed by Asit Tripathy, principal adviser to Chief Minister, at the inauguration of ProPack Odisha-2022 and Odisha MSME Meet 2022 organised by Odisha Assembly of Small and Medium Enterprises (OASME) at Jatana Maidan here to celebrate its 36th foundation day, today.

“The Odisha government in association with Nalco and Vedanta has planned to set up two aluminum parks at Angul and Jharsuguda. The District Industrial Development Agencies (DIPAs) are also working for the development of industrial sector in their jurisdictions. The government has renewed its focus and commitment for the development of ancillary industries,” Tripathy said.

According to Tripathy, the state government has earmarked Rs 600 crore for IDCO in three years for setting up of the industrial parks.

“The IDCO is also developing 11 industrial corridors alongside the Biju Expressway connecting Rourkela and Malkanagiri. The state government is considering a proposal to provide incentives for industrial development in the backward regions of Odisha,” said Tripathy who is also the Chairman of Western Odisha Development Council (WODC).

Speaking on the occasion, MSME Department Principal Secretary Rajnana Chopra revealed that the state government has told all discoms to set up separate MSME cells for redressal of grievances of Industrial houses with regard to electricity.

“We are in touch with all big, small and medium enterprises of Odisha. We are regularly trying to understand their expectations from the government. Around 95 per cent enterprises in Odisha are of micro and small in nature but their contribution to employment generation is not encouraging at all. The government is ready to provide handholding support to micro enterprises for upgrading them into small scale units,” Chopra said.

OASME Secretary General Satwik Swain presented the annual report of the association on the occasion. “We have planned to set up eastern region’s largest Engineering Common Facility Centre with an investment of Rs 30 crore near Choudwar in Cuttack. The centre will be established with assistance from the Centre and state government. The government has allocated 6 acres of land for the purpose. The India-Iran Trade Centre office has been established at OASME to facilitate bilateral trades and investments,” he said.

Other dignitaries present at the event are Gauri Sankar Dash, Chairman, OASME, Dr Sarat Kumar Sahoo, Executive Chairman, OASME, Sridhar Patra, CMD, Nalco and PK Gupta, Joint Director & HOO, MSME-DFO, Govt of India, Cuttack.

OASME awards were provided to the winners and a souvenir was also released by guests on the occasion.

ProPack Odisha-2022, a National level exhibition, will continue till August 28 at Janata Maidan. More than 40 industries from packaging and food processing sector of India and a multinational company from Iran are participating in the expo. More than 100 SMEs from across Odisha are also participating the exhibition.
