IIC suspended over suicide of theft accused in Odisha

Kendrapara: Taking stern action over death of an accused, who escaped from police station and later found dead, Odisha DGP Dr. RP Sharma suspended Mahakalpada IIC Shyamaghana Behera with immediate effect for neglect of duty.

During the suspension period, Behera will remain under the disciplinary control of IGP CR Cuttack.

Besides, Dr Sharma also directed the Kendrapara SP to take stringent disciplinary action against other police personnel of Mahakalpada police station who is found responsible for negligence and dereliction of duty in connection with the suicide of the theft accused.

According to reports, theft accused identified as Abinash Paital (25) of Balanala village under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district had escaped from Mahakalpada police station and allegedly committed suicide last night. He was arrested in a mobile phone theft case yesterday.

Abinash, the son of Sarat Chandra Paital, was booked under sections 457/380 of IPC at Mahakalpada police station on April 28, 2018.

The accused fled from the police station while he had gone to attend nature’s call. He was found hanging in someone’s building near the police station.
