IIFL loot in Odisha: Security Guard working at non-banking lender held

Cuttack: Intensifying its probe into a loot case at Indian Info Line Finance Ltd (IIFL), Nayasadak Branch, the Commissionerate Police arrested a Security Guard working at the non-banking finance company on Saturday and forwarded him to the court.

The Security Guard, Harmohan Das from Jajpur district was arrested from his house due to his active involvement in the robbery case. He is one of the associates of prime accused Lala Amrut Sagar Ray. With this, the number of accused in the IIFL robbery case rose to 11.

Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh informed the Security Guard conspired with others and went to Choudwar along with other accused in his Ertiga car on November 16 this year to meet other accused at Baideswar Colony to chalk out the plan of robbery. During a search at Harmohan’s house the police seized one Maruti Suzuki Swift bearing registration no – OR-02-BK-1415 and one Ertiga bearing registration no – OD-05-AS-1095, the DCP added.

Based on a written complaint filed by IIFL’s Territory Manager, Tapas Ranjan Swain at Lalbag police station on November 19 alleging loot at the IIFL, Nayasadak branch by unknown miscreants during morning hours on the same day, the police launched an investigation and arrested seven persons including the mastermind Lala Amrut Sagar Ray. Subsequently three more accused namely Saroj Kumar Prusty, Lalit Soni and Pitambar Sahoo were arrested and forwarded to the Court on November 26 and 27.

The Commissionerate Police have recovered 10.3Kg stolen gold ornaments, cash Rs 7.36 lakhs, One Audi Car, One Maruti Suzuki Swift, One Ertiga car, One Bajaj Pulsar Motor Cycles, One Honda Dream Yuga Motor Cycle, One Royal Enfield Classic Bullet bearing and other incriminating materials were seized from the 11 accused so far. Investigation into the robbery case is continuing and the recovery process is on.
