Illegal encroachments in front of ISKCON temple demolished in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Taking action against illegal encroachments that caused waterlogging on NH-16, the authorities today demolished the area encroached by ISKCON temple here.

A joint enforcement squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) started demolition of the illegal encroachments including a memorial (samadhi peeth) in front of the ISKCON temple under Nayapalli police limits.

Three JCBs were engaged for demolition drive launched by the BMC and BDA near ISKCON temple.

The illegal encroachments from Indradhanu Market to Jayadev Vihar area will be demolished in the city, said a BDA official.

Earlier, the BMC had issued a showcause notice to the temple authorities and manager of Hotel Presidency.

The notice dated 25.7.2018 had been served to the President of the ISKCON temple over encroachment and unauthorised construction of shops on the land earmarked as ‘Right of Way’ adjoining the NH, mentioning that the encroachment prevents flow of stormwater and causes sanitary condition in the area.
