Illegal soil extraction: Miscreants assault Tehsildar, try to run him over with JCB in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Bhubaneswar: Some miscreants allegedly attacked Parjang Tehsildar and tried to run him over with an excavator in Dhenkanal district of Odisha today.

The injured Tehsildar has been admitted to Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, sources said.

The incident took place when some people were reportedly digging soil illegally from a piece of government land at Patharkhamba village today morning.

On being informed, Parjang Tehsildar Subhra Patel along with a few officials of the Revenue department rushed to the spot and tried to seize an excavator and a few tractors engaged in the illegal act.

Around 8-10 people involved in the illegal digging of soil attacked the Tehsildar and tried to run him over with an excavator (JCB machine), said Revenue Inspector Alok Kumar Lenka.

“The miscreants also attacked me when I tried to rescue the injured Tehsildar. We have seized a tractor. But, the miscreants managed to flee the spot with the excavator and other vehicles engaged in the illegal digging of soil,” Lenka added.

Knowing about the incident, Parjang MLA Nrusingha Charan Sahu and Kamakhyanagar Sub-Collector Jyotishankar Sahu reached the hospital and talked to the injured Tehsildar.

“We have sent police force to Patharkhamba village. Steps are being taken to arrest the miscreants involved in the attack,” said the Sub-Collector.
