ILS to ease flight operations in bad weather at Odisha’s Jharsuguda Airport

Jharsuguda: Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be installed at the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Odisha’s Jharsuguda to facilitate take-off and landing of aircrafts during inclement weather conditions, informed Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The installation will be done within two months at a cost of Rs 324 crore, the official said. ILS is a precision landing aid which is used to provide accurate azimuth and descent guidance signals to aircraft for landing on the runway under normal or adverse weather conditions.

Last week, passengers had created uproar at the airport for frequent cancellation of flights. The airport authorities had said that absence of the ILS was causing frequent delay and cancellation of flights.
