“I’m from Rourkela,” says Bollywood actor Anupam Kher

Bhubaneswar, Jul 27:

Bollywood movies are rife with references to “small towns” in India, many a time. But seldom cities and towns of Odisha ever make it to the script. How many times have you ever heard the lead actor in a Hindi movie say that he hails from the state of Odisha?

But a professor’s character played by actor Anupam Kher in the movie Buddha in a Traffic Jam, proudly states that he hails from Odisha’s Steel City Rourkela. He then goes on to reminiscence his childhood days and Durga Puja celebrations in his hometown, at a dinner table conversation. Lastly, he ends the story with a moral lesson.

Buddha in a Traffic Jam is an autobiographical film directed by Vivek Agnihotri, where a college professor encourages his students to usher in a revolution to transform the politico-social face of the nation. This movie is based on the incident in Mangalore where two girls were beaten up for wearing western attire and was released on 13 May 2016 nationwide.
