IMD forecasts thunderstorm with lightning in 17 Odisha districts, issues Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: Some places in at least 17 districts of Odisha are very likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning during the next few hours. However, Heat Wave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over five districts of the State in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar forecasted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD regional centre said, “The trough from northeast Madhya Pradesh to North Interior Karnataka now runs from north Chhattisgarh to North Interior Karnataka across Telangana at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood has become less marked. The conditions are becoming favorable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next 48 hours.”

The highest maximum (day) temperature of 43.8 Degrees Celsius was recorded at Jharsuguda and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 22.5oC was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha.

Weather forecast and warning for the districts of Odisha for the next two days:

For Wednesday (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 08.06.2023)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Khurda, and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated):

Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nuapada.

Heat Wave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the Mayurbhanj district.

For Thursday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 08.06.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 09.06.2023)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Khurda, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated):

Heat Wave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Notably, the Maximum temperature is very likely to rise slightly about 2oC at a few places over the districts of Odisha during the next two days. It is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5oC at a few places over the districts of Odisha. Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during the next 4 to 5 days.

People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during 1100 IST-1500 IST.
