IMD predicts a spell of heavy to very heavy rain in Odisha from Sept 13; Orange warning issued

Bhubaneswar: The IMD has predicted a spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha starting from September 13.

The Monsoon Trough at mean sea level continues to pass through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Sagar, Pendra Road, Jharsuguda, Balasore and thence east-southeastwards to Northeast Bay of Bengal. The east-west trough from cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood to West central Bay of Bengal off north Coastal Andhra Pradesh across East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and south Chhattisgarh extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level persists, said the IMD in its weather bulletin today.

The cyclonic circulation over East central Bay of Bengal adjoining Myanmar coast between 3.1 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persists. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal during next 72 hours, added the IMD.

Several districts in Odisha may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall for a few days starting September 13 under the influence of the low pressure area, predicted the IMD.

Sept 13:  As per the prediction, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Cuttack and Angul on September 13. The IMD has issued an orange warning in this regard.

Besides, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur and Deogarh on the day, said the IMD while issuing an yellow warning in this regard.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha on September 13.

Sept 14:  Heavy to very heavy rainfall may lash one or two places over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Kalahandi and Cuttack on September 14. The IMD has issued an orange warning for these districts.

Besides, the IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Deogarh on the day.

Moreover, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha on September 14, said the IMD.

Sept 15:  According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput and Boudh on September 15. An orange warning has been issued for these districts.

The MeT department has also issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh on the day.
