IMD predicts heavy rainfall in several Odisha districts till Sept 7; yellow warning issued

Bhubaneswar: Several districts in Odisha may witness heavy rainfall till September 7, predicted the IMD in its weather bulletin today.

The monsoon trough at the mean sea level continues to run along the foothills of the Himalayas. The cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood persists and now extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours, said the IMD.

A trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal to north Coastal Andhra Pradesh between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation lies over Interior Odisha between 4.5 and 7.6 km above mean sea level and another cyclonic circulation lies over Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana between 4.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, added the IMD.

Sept 4: As per the IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur on September 4. Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Rayagada, Bolangir, Nuapada, Ganjam and Gajapati on the day, said the IMD while issuing an yellow warning in this regard.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati ,Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Boudh and Sonepur on September 4.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most of the places over the districts of Odisha on the day, said the MeT department.

Sept 5: According to the prediction, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur on September 5. The IMD has issued a yellow warning in this regard.

Besides, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda and Kalahandi on the day.

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain or thundershower at most of the places over the districts of South Odisha and at many places over the districts of North Odisha on September 5.

Sept 6: One or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj may witness heavy rainfall on September 6, said the IMD in its weather bulletin.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South Odisha and at many places over the districts of North Odisha on the day, added the IMD.

Sept 7: According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir and Bargarh on September 7. A yellow warning has been issued in this regard.

Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Sonepur, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Angul and Nayagarh on the day.

As per the forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha on September 7.
