IMD predicts rain, thunderstorm in Odisha till April 26

Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha are likely to witness rain and thunderstorm till April 26, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

Light to moderate rainfall has occurred at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sonepur in the last 24 hours, said the IMD regional centre here in its midday weather bulletin today.

April 22: As per the IMD prediction, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of South Odisha and one or two places over the districts of North Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Nuapada. Similarly, thunderstorm with lightening is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Boudh, predicted the IMD.

As per the IMD prediction, hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nabarangpur.

April 23: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of South Odisha, North Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the remaining districts of Odisha on April 23, said the IMD forecast.

The MeT centre has issued Orange warning for thunderstorm with lightening and gusty surface wind reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada on April 23.

As per the IMD prediction, hailstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Boudh and Cuttack.

“People are advised to keep watch on weather condition and take shelter at safer places during the thunderstorm activity to protect them from lightning. They are also advised to follow traffic advisories in urban areas,” said the weatherman.

The IMD also issued a Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

April 24: The IMD predicted light to moderate rain or thunderstorm for many places over the districts of Odisha on April 24. It has issued an Orange warning of thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

As per the MeT prediction, hailstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Boudh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. Besides, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Rayagada and Koraput, said the IMD.

April 25: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts Odisha on April 25, predicted the IMD. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nuapada, it added.

April 26: As per the prediction, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha on April 26. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Koraput on the day, said the IMD.

“Maximum temperature is very likely to fall by 2 to 3 degree C at a few places over the districts of Odisha during the next three days,” said the IMD.
