Bhubaneswar: The IMD has predicted thunderstorm with lightning in at least 22 districts of Odisha on September 2 (Saturday).

The monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to run along the foothills of the Himalayas. The cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height persists. The trough from the centre of cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood to south Coastal Andhra Pradesh at 3.1 km above mean sea level persists, said the IMD in its weather bulletin today.

The cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh at 1.5 km above mean sea level persists. A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around September 3. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form during subsequent 48 hours, added the IMD.

As per the IMD prediction, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Rayagada on September 2. The IMD has issued a yellow warning in this regard.

Besides, one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Dhenkanal may witness heavy rainfall on the day, said the IMD.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha, it added.
