IMFL off-shop fined Rs 20 Lakh for selling liquor above MRP in Odisha’s Cuttack

Barang: An Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) off-shop was imposed a hefty fine of Rs 20 lakh today and later the outlet was also sealed over selling alcoholic products above the maximum retail price (MRP) at Ramdaspur of Godisahi locality under Barang police limits in Cuttack district.

“Acting on directives of Excise Commissioner-Odisha Narsingh Bhola and subsequent order of Collector Narahari Sethi, the shop was sealed for charging Rs 10 per bottle of Beer above the MRP. Consumer Court in Cuttack imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh,” Cuttack Excise Superintendent Debasish Patel said.

“We will take action in case we get information on any such violation in the future. A man from CDA locality had filed a petition in the Consumer Court seeking redressal leading to the action,” the Excise Superintendent added.

Notably, the IMFL off-shop was being run by Kanhu Charan Nayak.
