‘Immunization against JE to begin in four Odisha districts from Dec’

The situation due to the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Malkangiri is “under control”, stated Arti Ahuja, Odisha Health & Family Welfare Secretary here today.

“Immunization programme for the vector-borne disease will commence from December this year in four districts. The programme has been approved by the Union Ministry of Health. Immunization programme will be undertaken in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Jajpur districts including Malkangiri,” informed Ahuja after holding a review meeting here to take stock of the situation.

She said the vector-borne viral disease has till date spread to 79 villages.

On the other hand, 49 kids have died due to the disease in Malkangiri district in the last 34 days including three deaths reported today.
