Rourkela: An automated driving testing system (ADTS) was started today by the Transport Department in Rourkela of Sundargarh district. This is the first of its kind DTS in Odisha.

According to an official source, at least 112 applicants for the Driving License (DL) appeared for the test. CCTV cameras were pressed into service for flawless and accurate driving testing. The automated DTS and video analytics system (VAS) will be of immense help to bring about transparency in the process.

The driving testing of applicants was conducted based on existing norms of the Department. A six-step method was followed and successful applicants will be issued DLs soon, the source added.

When contacted, Rourkela regional transport officer (RTO) Bibhanjan Samantasinghar said, “ADTS is a fully computerised process of driving testing. Twenty-six cameras have been installed for effective testing. The steps that an applicant has to qualify are overtaking, zebra crossing, ‘S’ track, parallel parking, gradient, and ‘8’ track etc. Visual analysis of driving is being done during the testing.”
