Cuttack: Even as Orissa High Court in Cuttack celebrates the Platinum Jubilee of its establishment, the Court yesterday pronounced a verdict in Odia language for the first time and in a historic step.

A single bench of Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi delivered a verdict after hearing a writ petition. The civil case was previously heard on July 19 and its judgment was preserved, which was published just a day before the Platinum Jubilee celebration.

The 41-page verdict was given in Odia which will commemorate 75 years of establishment. Common people were often facing difficulties in understanding a judgment because of the language barrier. This epoch-making step will certainly make judicial processes accessible to them.

It is pertinent to mention, 50 paperless courts covering 23 districts of Odisha were inaugurated on July 3 in virtual mode by Orissa High Court Chief Justice Dr Justice S Muralidhar in the presence of Justice S Talapatra, Chairman, Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology Committee of the Court.

With the inauguration of 50 new paperless courts, the Orissa High Court has come good on its pledge and the number of paperless courts in the District Judiciary of the State has reached 84.

In the near future, 50 more paperless courts are planned to be inaugurated, an official had said.

Sharing his experience, the Chief Justice had said that working in Paperless Court makes it much easier for the Judge to access the relevant documents in digital case records which are far more difficult in voluminous physical records and it leaves a positive impact on the mindset of the Judge.
