Incensed man axes wife to death over family feud in Odisha’s Angul

Talcher: A woman was axed to death by her husband today following an altercation at Dera-Pani hating under Talcher Colliery police limits in Angul district.

The deceased woman was identified as 45-year-old Jyoti Munda. However, the identity of the accused man has not been ascertained yet. He fled from the spot soon after committing the crime.

According to a police source, the couple had relocated from Balisahi in Deogarh district and has been residing in Dera locality for the past several years. The couple indulged in a brawl over an issue not known so far. Things took an ugly turn when, in a fit of rage, the man attacked his wife leading to her death.

The man axed Jyoti’s head, neck and shoulders. As a result, she sustained grievous injuries in the incident and later succumbed on the spot, the senior police official said.

On being informed, a team of Colliery police reached the crime spot and recovered the victim woman’s body from a pool of blood. The team seized the body and launched a probe into the alleged murder, which is underway. Police have sent the body to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.

“The victim woman’s body has been kept in the morgue at the sub-divisional hospital (SDH) in Talcher. We have seized the axe used by the accused in the crime,” Colliery PS IIC expressed.
