Indian Army Jawan held in Odisha for murdering beloved

Balangir: The district police today arrested a Jawan of the Indian Army for allegedly murdering his beloved in Sindheikela of Balangir district.

The Indian Army Jawan, Santosh Sahu from Berhampur came in contact with Suryakanti Sahu from Bhawanipatna through Facebook, a social networking website. Santosh and Suryakanti became closer and a love relationship developed subsequently, said a police official.

As Santosh and Suryakanti were from the same caste, their family members did not raise any objection for the couple’s marriage. However, when mother of Santosh demanded a dowry of Rs 30 lakhs, the father of Surykanti expressed his inability to meet the demand and rejected the marriage proposal.

Following this, the disgruntled Santosh decided to eliminate Suryakanti. As per his plans, Santosh called Suryakanti from her house in Bhawanipatna town. He then took her near Sindheikela school in Balangir district and murdered her, the police official added.

On December 9, 2021, a decomposed body of woman was recovered in Sundhimunda village under Sindheikela police limits. During police investigation, it was found out that the body was of Suryakanti Sahu from Bhawanipatna town.

Based on a police complaint filed by the deceased’s father, the police zeroed in on Santosh and detained him. Today, the police arrested him and forwarded to the court. After rejection of his bail plea, the accused has been set to jail.
