Indian Railways: Hot food, chilled beverages for train passengers soon

Bhubaneswar: Train passengers on-board will soon be served with hot food and chilled beverages.

As per sources, Train 18-the first engine-less inter-city train of Indian Railways’- will have better pantry than that of the Shatabdi Express with modern heating and chilling equipment. Each coach of the new Train 18 will have a mini pantry with equipment to heat food and chill drinks to prove a better experience to the passengers.

Train 18, which is being manufactured under ‘Make in India’ initiative by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai, is expected to hit the tracks for trial runs in October. Th train will be a self-propelled engine-less chair car rake. The semi-high speed train will be capable of achieving speeds of up to 160 kmph and will replace India’s fastest Shatabdi Express.

The Train 18 will be manufactured at around half the cost of a similar train being imported to India. It will be an air-conditioned train with executive and non-executive chair car coaches.

The train will also features automatic doors with sliding footsteps, continuous windows, diffused LED lighting, big luggage racks, fully sealed gangways, disabled-friend modular bio-vacuum toilets, passenger infotainment systems, WiFi, etc.
