Indravati dam opens two gates following incessant rain in Odisha

Nabarangpur: Following incessant rain that triggered flash floods in southern region of Odisha, two gates of Indravati dam were opened today to release excessive water.

The district administration initiated measure to shift residents to safe locations after heavy rainfall in past three days caused flood like situation in Nabarangpur.

Official sources said that the evacuation is underway for shifting people of Binjili, Ukiapali, Sanambada and Ghataguda villages under Kosagumuda block, 18 villages of Chirma panchayat and four villages under Nabarangpur block to different areas till the water recedes.

Notably, Indravati dam constructed on the Indravati River, a tributary of Godavari River, is one of the leading Hydroelectricity producing dam in eastern India.
